110. Why can't large generator sets be shipped by ordinary container?
Large generator sets are high-value, precision heavy-lift cargo that is overweight and out-of-gauge. They typically have very high dead weight, over-width and over-height dimensions and an irregular overall structure. Ordinary containers have fixed internal dimensions and payload limits and cannot accommodate or carry generator sets, nor can container shipping meet the securing, protection and lifting requirements of precision heavy cargo. The industry therefore uniformly uses dedicated break-bulk vessels or heavy-lift ships, the only compliant and safe way to export generator sets by sea.
